I am not a great fan of New Year's Eve and have never been. When I was little, the fireworks would only scare me, and today, I feel like expectations of the last night of the year are huge. Last year I didn't really feel like planning anything big for NYE so I went to DeHaan with my parents. DeHaan is a small but beautiful coastal town in Belgium. It's so charming, it almost looks like something out of a children's book. My parents have been going there for long weekends for a couple of years now, and every now and then I join them for a few days of good food, fresh air and simply to relax a little bit. And I have to say, spending NYE there with only my parents, my dog and the sea for company was a great idea. There was time to really reflect on the last year and dream about what 2016 will bring.
We always stay in the same Bed & Breakfast called Manoir Carpe Diem, which in my opinion is the nicest place in town. The breakfast is really good and it's only 5 minutes walking distance from the sea. I always enjoy staying in one of their elegant rooms.
I love just walking through town and looking at the houses! I always find some kind of hidden jewel and start to imagine living there. My parents always treat us to nice restaurants when we're on holiday, which is great. The first night we went to a fish restaurant called Oesterput, where I ate the biggest dover sole I have ever seen. The next day we spent mostly outside, walking along the seashore as we got really lucky with the weather.
On NYE we went to my parents favourite restaurant called Bleu Chaud. Usually you can get there the most amazing steaks and fries, but on this special night they were serving everyone a 5 course menu, which was delicious. I didn't take pictures of every course but in the pictures you can see the two kinds of starters, the main course and the dessert. The dinner made the night feel like something really special, and at 12 o'clock we watched the fireworks at the beach for a bit and then went to bed. On New Year's Day we had a yummy breakfast and went for another long walk in the sun, before I went home without my parents, who stayed for a few more nights. All in all i had a great NYE, even better than I imagined, and if 2016 is going to be as good as my NYE I am ready to take on the new year!
